2015 is the year of anniversaries, celebrations and festivals in the Upper Rhine Valley. The 1,000-year anniversary of the Strasbourg Cathedral or Karlsruhe celebrating its 300th birthday, many other exciting events will attract guests from all over the world.
1,000 Years Strasbourg Cathedral
It’s not just unique, it’s a real sensation! Only a few other buildings in the world can look back on 1,000 years of history, and the Strasbourg Cathedral has more than a few interesting stories to tell. In honour of the millennial anniversary of the very first Romanesque church, Strasbourg will host countless musical, spiritual, and cultural events until September 2015.
Over 500 events in 100 days – in 2015. Karlsruhe will celebrate its 300th birthday with a Festival Summer event program chock-full of highlights, new daily events, and 15 weekends overflowing with attractions and fun. The palace grounds in the city centre will serve as the festival’s central location. It was here that Margrave Karl Wilhelm of Baden-Durlach built his new residence in 1715, simultaneously laying the foundation stone for a brand new city: Karlsruhe. Festivities will also be held in downtown Karlsruhe and throughout the 27 city districts, as well as at numerous scientific and cultural institutions, such as the ground- breaking media art exhibition GLOBALE at the ZKM | Center for Art and Media.
In addition to numerous anniversary promotions and festivities,
guests can look forward to a new film starring Euromaus and his friends in the Magic 4D Cinema. The Euro-Tower, the “Kolumbusjolle” attraction in Spain, and the Italian stage are all also going to be fully remodelled.
In 2015, Basel Tattoo will present stunning choreography and a unique musical performance for the 10th time against the tremendous backdrop of the Basel barracks. Whether young or old, big or small, Basel Tattoo inspires people from all over the world. The sensational show and flawless production regularly results in standing ovations.
