Places to be this season – Kerala Backwaters

Upendra SwamiMarch 11, 2014 995 Views0

A sneak peek into god's own country- Kerala through its backwaters. An experience worth cherishing. Alleppey (Alappuzha) is indeed one of the best places to be, which rightly calls itself Venice of the east. None other than Lord Curzon exclaimed this.  Here nature has showered her richest bounties. Alleppey to Punnamada is a backwater highway of a sort. A place to be at any time of the year. ...

Sun setting at one of the lesser known but very beautiful beach of Chandrabhaga, very close to UNESCO world Heritage site of Konark in Odisha, India. A silhouette of child playing at the beach. Konark and Chandrabhaga are just on a hour and half's drive from coastal temple town of Puri. ...

Photo of the Day – Search for an elusive signal

Upendra SwamiNovember 14, 2013 886 Views0

Life is not easy, especially if you are in armed forces and posted at a high altitude, far and away from your family. This ordinary looking photo is a testimony to it. Tsomgo Lake in North-east Sikkim in India is located at an altitude of 3753 metres and close to China border at Nathu-La. Although it is a very popular tourist spot, army men posted in this sensitive area have tough time in keeping in touch with there family members. Mobile signals are not always that strong. Here in this photograph we can see few army men desperately trying to locate the floating signal  and catch it on their mobile phones in attempt to get in touch with their near and dear ones. ...

Peradeniya, Kandy: Much beyond a Botanical Gardens

Upendra SwamiNovember 13, 2013 1904 Views1

Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, Kandy in heart of Sri Lanka is truly spectacular, much beyond a mere botanical garden, a paradise, riot of colours, heaven of orchids. A must see for all travelers to Sri Lanka. So huge that not easy for a normal traveler to see it in a day. Need to have ample time to enjoy its rarity. Situated in suburbs of Kandy, it is a huge botanical preservation with a large and unique collection of plants, trees, herbs, flowers and anything related to flora. Beautiful setting with walkways and gardens.  Some of the rarest and oldest plants can be seen here too. Fruit bats, bamboo higher than a 3 story building, monkeys and plants/trees you wouldn't see anywhere else. It holds an admirable collection of orchids, palm trees and endemic plants. Not to be missed by ...

Photo of the day – Buddha in embrace

Upendra SwamiNovember 12, 2013 1058 Views0

One of those things which you crave to have photo of as a photographer- this idol of Buddha in Embrace was my that moment. On trek to Sandakphu in West Bengal, there is a small village named Meghma (in the clouds) because it remains surrounded by clouds all over most of the time. Village is so closed to Indo-Nepal border that half of village falls within the Nepalese territory. There we found this monastery from one of the schools of Vajrayana sect of Buddhism. Nobody there, had tough time in getting somebody to open it, and when it did, it was a true delight. ...

Festival of lights – India celebrates

Upendra SwamiNovember 6, 2013 2013 Views3

India celebrated festival of lights- Diwali, couple of days back. This festival is equally festival of colours as well. Beautiful colours are used to create designs (Rangoli) and decorate them. A glimpse of the creativity with dry colours, flowers, petals... lightened with earthen lamps lit with oil or wax and cotton. Enjoy...
