With less then a week to go for St.Patrick’s Festival (14th to 17th March) at Dublin in Ireland, there’s lots going on! Last Thursday was announced festival’s 2014 Grand Marshal Stephen Roche, one of Ireland’s greatest ever sporting stars. Really looking forward to seeing him lead the Parade on the 17th of March! Festival also launched its I Love My City cultural programme in Iveagh Gardens. I Love My City cultural programme, is a series of events and happenings, featuring both established and emerging artists from a variety of disciplines including literature, music, film, song, spoken word, photography, visual art and more!
Organisers have also been working hard on their 2014 Festival Programme, so make sure to get your free copy in the Irish Independent next Monday the 10th of March, and plan what you want to see over the four-day Festival!

On Festival Saturday, St. Patrick’s Festival and Waterways Ireland bring you Waterworks, a fun-filled afternoon of interactive workshops for children, taking place in the Waterways Visitor Centre on Grand Canal Quay. Children can learn how to make their very own bottle fish with artist Jane Groves (suitable for 6-10 years), or make musical instruments with Robbie Perry of Junk Orchestra (suitable for 8-12 years), all from recyclable materials! These 40-45 minute workshops are FREE, but pre-registration is essential. Also taking place on Grand Canal Dock is the Floating Cinema, on Sunday 16th March at 7.30pm. Wrap up warm and come along to see Irish classic, Waking Ned – a great start to an evening out in Dublin!

At Festival Big Day Out there would be Dublin UNESCO City of Literature Zone, where ‘The Powers: the Not-So-Super Superheroes’ book, by Irish author Kevin Stevens, will be brought to life. Drop along on Festival Sunday and listen to animated readings, create your own comic strip with illustrator Sheena Dempsey and become your favourite superhero in the costumed photo booth!
