Lockdown chronicles : Next 10 days and counting

Upendra SwamiApril 14, 2020 1844 Views8

Things had taken a shape of routine in the next ten days of the lockdown due to COVID-19 spread. Well, I am talking about the photography routine. Although even without photography, watching these trees across and all the avian species moving around had become bit fascinating. Still, nothing can be compared to vagabonding around. That is yet some days away. Hope remained that 21st would be the last day, although all indications point to the contrary. Till then, here are the chronicles of the second set of ten days. (You can follow me on Instagram to see all these as daily feeds.)

DAY 11

Lockdown Chronicles Day 11 : Almost four floor high neem tree is actually a landing and resting site for most of the birds in vicinity from bulbuls to kingfishers, barbets, koels, sunbirds, parrots & et Al.

DAY 12

Lockdown Chronicles Day 12 : In this lockdown sticking to your homes be like these plum-headed parakeets!

DAY 13

Lockdown Chronicles Day 13 : No time for peace! One would have thought that an pandemic of this proportion will bring people together. But we are divided and full of hatred like never before, even in this tough time!!

DAY 14

Lockdown Chronicles Day 14 : Two weeks of isolation has made us all behave like hawks, always looking out for prey!! 🙁

DAY 15

Lockdown Chronicles Day 15 : Theatre of the absurd around us! The neem tree is more or less like a stage where all different characters come and display there acts with no relation to others!!

More in lockdown! Read: Walking down the Agra’s necropolis, in the shadow of the Taj

DAY 16

Lockdown Chronicles Day 16 : It was now the female Koel’s turn! But its the male who has sweeter voice (by which koels are usually identified) and its the female who looks more fierce!! Who gets more fierce at home during a lockdown?

DAY 17

Lockdown Chronicles Day 17 : They were back! Pigeon pair came down to the tree for some time today after many days. Either to do a recce for a new nest or just to have some intimate moments!

DAY 18

Lockdown Chronicles Day 18 : This lockdown has brought out creativity out of many of us! I remember that in drawing classes at elementary schools, first flower that kids learn to draw is something quite similar to this sadabahar or periwinkle or vinca rosea flower! Isn’t it? A common but so beautiful and a very useful medicinal flower!

DAY 19

Lockdown Chronicles Day 19 : Now this bird watching routine has given some new sightings like this Eurasian collared Dove! Said to have introduced from Eurasia to Bahamas, it was the first time I noticed it in the neighbourhood! Small pleasures in tough times!!

DAY 20

Lockdown Chronicles Day 20 : This will again go down as one of the mini achievements of this lockdown photography! A white coloured rock pigeon – first time I have seen one in my neighbourhood and was able to capture it as well!!

Interesting, Eurasian collared dove and plum-headed parakeets. So you are not in Kerala, Jammu, Kashmir, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Bengal or anywhere to its east. I’m surprised, I thought you would be in Rajasthan.

Rajasthan is my home state, but I am in Delhi Khanewala Sir. Only the plum-headed parakeets were bit far from Delhi, rest all in the neighbourhood close to Yamuna belt..

It is very refreshing to birds coming back. Last time I woke up to the chirping of birds was when I was school. So glad that drop in pollution level is a blessing.
